When there is excess secretion of acids in the gastric glands of the stomach, acidity occurs. It can be caused because of many reasons like- a long gap between meals, excessive intake of coffee, tea, and an empty stomach. When there is secretion of acids more than usual, then it leads to acid reflux or heartburn. In order to get rid of this, have the following food items:
1 Basil Leaves
Basil Leaves give you instant relief from acidity as they have carminative and soothing properties. At the first sign of gas, chew few basil leaves or boil few basil leaves in water. Sip frequently. This acts as the best home remedies for acidity.
We often wonder why elders finish a meal with a small piece of jaggery. It is because of its high magnesium content which boosts intestinal health. Since it aids digestion, it makes the digestive system more alkaline in nature which reduces acidity. Jaggery helps to maintain normal body temperature and cooling the stomach. They prevent the formation of gas in the gastrointestinal tract as they are carminative in nature. While cooking black gram or kidney beans, add cloves as these food items cause flatulence. Have crushed cloves and cardamom to get rid of bad breath, and to treat acidity.
Buttermilk is categorised as a sattvic food in Ayurveda. The next time you get acidity after having a meal, drink a glass of buttermilk. It contains lactic acid which neutralises the acidity in the stomach. Add a teaspoon of ground coriander leaves or sprinkle black pepper for best results.

The acid reflux is often because of too little stomach acid. That is when you should consume apple cider vinegar. Mix two teaspoons of unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a cup of water and have it twice daily.
8 Cumin Seeds
Cumin seeds help in digestion, relieves stomach pain, and acts as an acid neutralizer. Crush roasted cumin seeds and mix it into a glass of water. You can even add one teaspoon of cumin seeds in boiled water and have it after every meal.

12 Cold Milk
Cold milk helps to stabilize acids in the stomach for those of you who are not lactose intolerant. Since it is rich in calcium, it prevents the building of acid in the stomach. Drink a glass of cold milk when you suffer from acidity.
Oatmeal is a favourite breakfast option. It is a whole grain rich in fibers. This helps to absorb acid in the stomach and reduce further symptoms. Other options include whole grain rice and whole grain bread.
14 Black Pepper
Consumption of black pepper is a tried and tested home remedy for gastric problems. Take half a teaspoon of powdered black pepper with a small lump of jaggery to it. Eat this everyday to fight gas problems. You can also prepare a mixture using powdered ginger, powdered black pepper, mint leaves, and coriander seeds.

Raw Almonds are almonds which are not soaked in water or tampered in any way. Almonds help to cure the acidity and gas as they have natural oils which neutralize the acid in the stomach. It is high in fiber content which helps in the process of digestion.
19 Pineapple Juice
Pineapple juice provides quick relief from acidity. Drink a glass of this juice after you have a spicy meal. They contain bromelain, which controls the hydrochloric acid levels and prevent acid reflux.
