From our kindergarten age, we are taught that India is the land of festivals. Now, depending on who you ask, what is the best thing about festivals? It is the sweets. The perhaps innumerable festivals give us innumerable reasons to make sweets. Among the many Indian festive sweets,the most popular and most loved are perhaps LADDOOS. 1 Motichoor Laddoo

These laddoos are quite common and widely popular. They melt in your mouth bringing the feeling of heaven inside your mouth. However, making motichoor laddoos is a bit time consuming but nevertheless worth it.

Ingredients:

For The Syrup :

  1. Sugar – 1 cup
  2. Water – ½ cup
  3. Saffron powder- a pinchFor The Boondi:1. Gram flour(besan) – 1 cup
    2. Saffron powder – a pinch
    3. Water – ¾ cup
    4. Cardamom – 3 or 4
    5. Melon seeds (magaz) – ½ tbsp
    6. Oil for frying
    7. Ghee for making the ballsProcedure:The Syrup :Mix the sugar and saffron in the water and cook the solution on the flame till it reaches one thread consistency. Keep the solution aside.The Boondi :

    1. Make a batter of gram flour, saffron powder and water.
    2. Heat the oil in the pan.
    3. Take a large amount of the batter and pour it into the oil through a perforated ladle by pressing the batter with another ladle or large spoon.
    4. Fry the boondi till golden brown. Avoid them from becoming crisp.
    5.Collect the fried boondi and drain the oil. Add them to the hot sugar syrup. If the syrup is not hot, then heat it.
    6. Repeat this for all the boondi and stir and mix them well in the syrup until they soften.
    7. Add the boondi and the syrup in a mixer blender and add 1 tbsp of hot water and pulse the mixture for the boondi to get into smaller shape.
    8. Add the melon seeds and the cardamoms and mix well.
    9. Put some ghee on the palms of your hands and take the boondi mixture in your hand and make round balls of them.
    10. Garnish the laddoos with raisin and cashew if you wish and you laddoo is ready.

    2 Besan Laddoo

    Besan laddoos are pretty easy to make. These laddoos made of gram flour, powdered sugar and ghee are not only of superior taste but are also quite healthy. So for those who are pretty health conscious when it comes to sweets, you can definitely try these.

    Ingredients:

    1.Gram flour – 2 cups
    2.Ghee – ½ to 2/3 cup
    3.Powdered sugar – 1 cup
    4.Green cardamom powdered – 4
    5.Raisins – 1 or 2 tbsp

    Procedure:

    1.Dry roast the gram flour in a pan on a low flame for about 11-12 minutes and continuously stir to avoid burning.
    2. Melt the ghee and keep aside.
    3. After 11-12 minutes of roasting the gram flour add the molten ghee to it.
    4. Once the roasted gram flour starts giving out a strong nutty fragrance, switch off the stove.
    5. Take down the pan and add the powdered sugar and stir well to avoid formation of lumps.
    6. Add the raisins and cardamom and stir well.
    7. Let the mixture cool down and then make round balls of them, and your laddoo is ready.

    3 Atta Laddoo

    Atta laddoos are extremely delicious and quick and easy to make.Made from whole wheat flour, sugar and ghee these are as much healthy as much as they are budget-friendly.

    Ingredients:
    1. Whole wheat flour (atta) – 1 cup
    2. Powdered sugar – 1/3 cup
    3. Ghee – 1/3 cup
    4. Raisins (optional) – 1 tbsp

    Procedure:

    1. Roast the atta in a thick bottomed broad pan on a low flame and stir continuously to avoid burning.
    2. Roast till golden brown and then add the ghee.
    3. Mix and stir well till the atta is cooked.
    4. Take down the pan and add the sugar and then the raisins and mix well.
    5. Let the mixture cool down and then shape your laddoos into round balls.

    4 Coconut Laddoo

    Coconut laddoos made of desiccated and coconut and sugar syrup melt in your mouth and are popular with a lot of festivals.

    Ingredients:

    1. Desiccated coconut – 1.5 cup
    2. Sugar – 2/3 cup
    3. Water – ½ cup
    4. Green cardamoms powdered – 3 to 4

    Procedure:

    1. Make a solution of the sugar
    2. Cook the sugar solution on a low flame until it becomes thick.
    3. Switch the stove off and add the desiccated coconut and cardamom powder to the sugar solution.
    4. Quickly mix and stir the mixture while the mixture is hot and make them into round laddoos.

    5 Rava Laddoo

    Rava Laddoos are delicious of their kind made with semolina, khoya and desiccated coconut. Its easy and can be made in 20 minutes.

    Ingredients:
    1. Sooji – 1 cup
    2. Khoya – ½ cup
    3. Desiccated coconut – ¼ cup
    4. Milk – 11-12 tbsp
    5. Sugar – ½ cup
    6. Ghee – 1-2 tbsp
    7. Cashews chopped – 10-12
    8. Raisin – 1 tbsp
    9. Green cardamoms crushed – 5

    Procedure:

    1. In a pan add the ghee, rava and cashews.
    2. Stir and roast the rava.
    3. Add the desiccated coconut and roast and stir it well.
    4. Add the grated khoya and mix well.
    5. Add the sugar, cardamom powder and raisins and mix well.
    6. Add the milk in parts and mix well and once all the milk is absorbed take down the pan.
    7. Grease your hands with ghee and make the laddoos.

    6 Ragi Laddoo

    Made of ragi, jaggery and ghee, ragi laddoos are quick, tasty and easy to make. They are extremely rich in calcium and therefore very healthy for kids and women.

    Ingredients:

    1. Ragi – 1.5 cups
    2. Jaggery powdered – ¾ cup
    3. Ghee – 1/3 cup
    4. Cardamom powder- ½ tsp

    Procedure:

    1. Roast the ragi flour in a pan on low flame till the colour changes releasing a nice aroma.
    2. Add the ghee to the ragi and mix well till cooked.
    3. Take the pan down and add the cardamom powder and the jaggery powder and mix very well.

    7 Poha Laddoo

    Poha laddoos are greatly loved by kids. These are quick, easy and tasty.

    Ingredients:

    1. Heaped thick poha – 1 cup
    2. Powdered jaggery – 1/3 cup
    3. Ghee – 3-4 tbsp
    4. Milk – 1 tbsp, chilled at room temperature.
    5. Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
    6. Cashews – 8-10
    7. Raisins – 1 tbsp

    Procedure:

    1. Roast the poha on a low flame in a pan and continuously stir it till it turns light brown and easily breakable.
    2. Add the poha and the powdered jaggery in a grinder and grind them well.
    3. Heat ghee in a pan and add the cashews, raisins and cardamom powder and fry them.
    4. Add the contents of the frying pan to the poha-jaggery mixture in a bowl and mix it well.
    5. Add 2tbsp of ghee to the mixture and mix well. Add 1 tbsp of milk and mix well. Let the mixture cool down. Shape the mixture into laddoos.

    8 Dry Fruits Laddoo

    These laddoos are a no sugar delicacy and therefore, suitable for diabetic people. These are also vegan and can be had during fasting rituals.

    Ingredients:

    1. Chopped dates – 1 cup
    2. Almonds – 3 tbsp
    3. Raisins – 2 tbsp
    4. Cashews – 2 tbsp
    5. Dry figs – 8
    6. Desiccated coconut – 1 tbsp
    7. Powdered cardamom – 2

    Procedure:

    1. Roast the almonds.
    2. In a grinder add the chopped dates, figgs, roasted almonds, cashews, raisins, desiccated coconut, and cardamom powder and grind them.
    3. Take the ground mixture in a bowl and make small balls out of them and your laddoo is ready.

    9 Badam Laddoo

    Badam laddoos made of almonds, jaggery and raisin, are quick and easy made not- mention very budget-friendly.

    Ingredients:

    1. Almonds – 1 cup
    2. Jaggery – 1/3 cup
    3. Raisins – 2 tbsp
    4. Green cardamoms – 3

    Procedure:

    1. Roast the almonds on low flame in a pan.
    2. Once the almonds are roasted, add the raisins and mix them well. Switch off the flame and keep the mixture aside.
    3. Add the mixture and powdered jaggery and cardamom in a grinder and grind them till a fine consistency is reached, and the almonds have released oil.

    Ingredients:

    1. Moong dal – 1 cup
    2. Sugar – 1/3 cup

    1. Roast the moong dal on a low flame in a pan until brown.

    11 Coconut-Khoya Laddoo

    These are quick and easy melt-in-the-mouth laddoos made of coconut and khoya.

    Ingredients:

    1. Grated khoya – 1 cup
    2. Grated coconut – 1.5 cups
    3. Sugar – ¼ cups
    4. Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
    5. Ghee – 1 tbsp

    Procedure:

    1. Roast the coconut on a low flame in a pan. When done keep the roasted coconut aside.

    Popular among the North-Indians, malai laddoo is a two-ingredients easy recipe. Its sophisticated and a delicacy.

    Ingredients:

    1. Coagulated milk solid – 1 cup
    2. Sugar – 3 tbsp
    3. Cardamom powder – ½ tsp
    4. Saffron strands – a pinch
    5. Almonds for garnishing – 4 or 5 chopped

    Procedure:

    1. Simmer the coagulated milk solid in a pan.
    2. After a while switch off the flame and add the cardamom powder and saffron strands. Mix well and let the mixture cool down.
    3. Add powdered sugar and mix well.
    4. Grease your palms with ghee and make small round balls of the mixture.

    Widely made in Tamil Nadu, this South-Indian delicacy is made of roasted gram. These are not only just delicious but of high nutritious value.

    Ingredients:

    1. Roasted gram – 1 cup
    2. Sugar – ½ cup
    3. Cardamom – 3
    4. Nutmeg – a pinch
    5. Chopped cashews – 10-12
    6. Raisins- 1 tbsp
    7. Ghee- ¼ cup

    Procedure:

    1. Grind the gram to a fine powder.
    2. Add powdered sugar and powdered cardamom and grated nutmeg to the gram powder and mix well.
    3. Fry the cashews and raisins in 1 tbsp of ghee.
    4. Add the fried cashews and raisins to the gram flour.
    5. Melt the rest of the ghee in the pan and then add it to the mixture and mix well.
    6. Saute the mixture on a low flame.

    1. Urad dal – 1 cup
    2. Sugar – ½ cup

    1. Roast the urad dal on a low flame in a thick bottomed pan until golden brown. Keep it aside once done and let it cool down.

    1. Peanuts – 1 cup

    Ingredients:

    1. Puffed rice – 3 cups
    3. Grated jaggery – ½ cup
    4. Roasted gram – ¼ cup
    5. Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp
    6. Water – 4 tbsp

    1. Dry roast the puffed rice on medium heat till crispy and transfer it to another bowl.

    Ingredients:

    1. Sesame seeds – ½ cup
    2. Peanuts – ¼ cup

    5. Water – 3 tbsp
