
All the food listed below tastes really good and are highly economical, all of them starting from tens and twenties to a hundred or one hundred and fifty won’t burn a hole in your pocket and will surely help in satisfy your hunger and fill you with happiness.
1.Puttu
One of the most traditional and popular dishes of Kerala. Commonly used as a breakfast dish, prepared using rice flour and coconut.
Generally seen in a cylindrical steam cake form but may vary.
Best served hot with kadala (chickpea) curry or fish, chicken curry or banana or pappadum.

2.Porotta
Made from Maida flour and is one of the popular street foods of Kerala.
Eaten with Chicken, beef, mutton curry or a vegetable kurma.

3.Appam
The main ingredients are fermented rice batter and coconut milk. A very popular breakfast dish.
Appam has lots of variants that are equally famous. Usually served with a stew, egg or chicken curry.

4.Dosa
Made using fermented batter and main ingredients are rice and black gram. Served traditionally along with sambar and chutney; the Dosa is a very popular and highly recommended food.
The dosa has many popular variants too.

5.Masala Dosa
The masala dosa is a very famous variant of Dosa.
The dosa is wrapped around an onion and potato curry or masala.
Quick fact: the masala dosa was listed as number 49 on world’s 50 most delicious foods compiled by CNN go in 2011.

6.The Neyi roast or the ghee roast dosa
The neyi roast is yet another famous variant of the dosa.
The golden brown, crisp ghee roast is cooked in fresh and quality ghee or oil and tastes really good when served with sambar and chutney.

7.Idli
Traditional breakfast dish served with sambar and chutney.
The idlis are made by steaming a batter of fermented black lentils and rice.
The idli also have some variants, but the traditional one is still everyone’s favourite.

8.Vada
The medu vada is a fritter made from black gram and is usually made in a doughnut shape.
It has a lovely crispy exterior and a soft interior.

9.Upma
Upma as we know is popular in many parts of India and is prepared in different manners. The kerala variant is called the uppumavu and may also have peanuts, roasted nuts, carrot etc. in it.

10.Pathiri
A famous coastal Malabari originated dish.
Light for the stomach and people eat in big numbers.
Served usually with chicken, beef or chana curry.

11.Sadhya
Traditional banquet served on a banana leaf. It’s a vegetarian feast and consists of rice, many other curries, papadam, curd, buttermilk etc. And the traditional dessert called payasam is served at the end of the meal.

12.Kanji or congee
A type of rice porridge, eaten with roasted coconut chutney, roasted papadum etc.

13.Pazhampori or Ethaka Appam
An all-time favorite snack of Malayalees. These banana fritters are made using maida or atta and are loved by all.

14.Biryani
Malabar biryani, Chettinad Biryani, thalassery dum biryani are some of the awesome varieties of biryani famous in kerala.

15.Idiyappam
Idiyappam or noolputtu is a traditional dish in noodle form made of rice flour. Taken with milk, egg curry, kadala curry etc.

16.Tapioca
Cassava,kappa or kolli is a main dish and is taken with chutney, fish or beef curry.

17.Ada or Adai
Made of lentils and rice and consists of a very sweet filling.

18.Vatteyappam
A sweet variant of the appam. More like a steam cooked sweet rice cake.

19.Oothappam
The traditional pizza or the appam with a topping made of onion, tomato, capsicum, paneer etc.

20.Bonda
Have sweet and spicy versions in different regions. A very popular snack.
